Kaya Stewart has been writing and recording songs since she was 13 years old. Sure Dave Stewart of Eurythmics is her Dad but that doesn't guarantee talent or success and she knows that. After a song she wrote and recorded blew up on Soundcloud, records labels started knocking on her door. Soon she found herself on Warner Brothers Records and out on the Vans Warped Tour but it wasn't all dreamy. Kaya decided to start over and do things her way. During the Pandemic she was diagnosed with OCD which was the catalyst to write the collection of songs that make up her new album IF THINGS GO SOUTH which was co-written and co-produced by Dave Stewart. The record comes out Sept 30th and will be available on all streaming platforms. Kaya has an incredible voice and is a great songwriter and I really dig some of the songs on her new album. I think you guys are really gonna dig this episode. Over 660 episodes of Let There Be Talk and 80 percent of them all said Kiss is the reason they started playing music. To quote my good friend Cedric Bixler-Zavala of The Mars Volta KISS is The Gateway into Rock n Roll and he could not be more correct. I hope you enjoy this episode as much as I did recording it. Today my friend Marcus King stops by the show to talk all about his new album Young Blood coming out Aug 26th on American Recordings. I have loved this mans music from the first day I heard him and can not stop telling people about him. Marcus and I dive into whats been going on with him over the last couple of years including working with Dan Auerbach again in the studio, co-writing with Desmond Child and our Rock and Comedy tour that is about to start in Sept.
King has been an outlier from the very beginning. A fourth generation musician from Greenville, SC, who learned guitar at age 3 from his blues rock musician father Marvin King. He navigated troublesome school years to quickly become known as one of the most promising young artists of our time. He followed breakout success with The Marcus King Band, with his Auerbach produced 2020 solo album debut, El Dorado. It garnered a GRAMMY® Award nomination in the category of “Best Americana Album” and critical praise from The New York Times to NPR’s Weekend Edition. With unparalleled performance prowess and a dynamic live show, King has sold out historic venues from The Beacon to The Filmore. He has opened for Chris Stapleton, Greta Van Fleet and Nathaniel Rateliff and graced the bills of Stagecoach, Fuji Rock, Rock Werchter and more. He also recently launched his own custom Gibson guitar and signature Orange guitar amplifier, the MK Ultra, which sold out before it even hit the stores. |

Amelia is the owner and manager of Jim Marshall Photography LLC. Amelia stops by the show to talk all about the new fantastic documentary on Jim called Show Me The Picture The Story Of Jim Marshall. You name the artist and Jim has the most Iconic photo of them ever. I loved this film and it was an honor to talk to Amelia. This episode is brought to you by Rolling Stone 500 In the mid-2000s, few people were more famous than Britney Spears. But as she began to stumble in her personal life, the price of the public’s fascination was more than just a few nasty late-night jokes. Paparazzi swarmed Spears’ home and her family, turning the singer into a tabloid punching bag. But when you’re a platinum-selling pop princess, the show goes on even when you desperately need an intermission. In the midst of madness, Spears began recording an album that would become her defining statement, 2007’s Blackout. Rolling Stone’s 500 Greatest Albums revisits the album at a time when Spears’ music — and the raw treatment she received from the public and the press — is being revisited and rethought in a big way. Collaborators and friends, from the A&R rep who was one of Spears’ closest allies to the producers who crafted visceral hits like “Piece of Me,” tell the story of how Spears’ made classic songs in the eye of a hurricane. The result was an album that stood as a middle finger to Spears’ critics and established a dark, danceable sound that influenced pop for years to come. Be sure to tune in on Amazon Music. #617: Tom Vitale / Author of "In The Weeds - Around The World and Behind The Scenes with Anthony Bourdain
Today on episode 617 of Let There Be Talk my guest is Tom Vitale, author of "In The Weeds - Around The World and Behind The Scenes with Anthony Bourdain. In the nearly two years since Anthony Bourdain's death, no one else has come close to filling the void he left. His passion for and genuine curiosity about the people and cultures he visited made the world feel smaller and more connected. Despite his affable, confident, and trademark snarky TV persona, the real Tony was intensely private, deeply conflicted about his fame, and an enigma even to those close to him. Tony’s devoted crew knew him best, and no one else had a front-row seat for as long as his director and producer, Tom Vitale. Tune in and hear these amazing stories and make sure you buy this incredible book. Don't forget to subscribe to my podcast on iTunes Candles Lit my Friends. DDR

Today I sit down in the box office of one of the greatest Rock n Roll venues in America the Cow Palace located in San Francisco. I recently was up in the Bay Area doing some Stand Up Comedy and Andrew Shreve reached out and said he works at the Cow Palace and asked if I would like to come take a tour and maybe do a podcast in the venue. I screamed YES YES YES and headed over to the venue for a full on tour of the very building that gave me all my Rock n Roll memories. I know the building inside and out but to be able to sit down and hear the History from Andrew and Jeff Ewald was next level. Everyone has that classic memory of some great concert they went to but take a second and think about the venue. So many of these classic venues are gone now unfortunately. The stories the Cow Palace walls could tell would be insane. Jeff and I sat down in the legendary Box Office of the Cow Palace surrounded by a who's who of Autographs on the walls and dove into the history of this incredible Venue. This was a dream come true and they even had my name on the Marque. I hope you guys enjoy this little piece or rock history.

There was a time when I was Living in San Francisco when every Speaker in the City was rocking The Melvins. The Melvins have been going at it since 1983 and have influenced so many bands over all these years. Dale has a brand new solo record out this week called RAT A TAT TAT and also next month a new Melvins album is coming. Both of the new releases are smoking. Sit back and enjoy this conversation with this fantastic musician. |

Today I sit down with R. J. Cutler director of the new John Belushi documentary on Showtime called Belushi out right now. R. J. has made a fantastic film about John that really blew me away and after watching it I knew I had to talk to him right away. John Belushi has always had a special place in my heart and is part of the reason why I do Stand Up Comedy. When I was very young I would stay up late and watch SNL and John would completely Blow My Mind. R. J. has done some amazing work over the years and in February 2021 he will be debuting his new Billie Eilish documentary on Apple TV. Thanks for tuning in today and Happy New Year Delraisers. DDR |
